Community Event

By Daniëlle Bruggeman& Pascale Gatzen

The ArtEZ Fashion Professorship and Fashion Held in Common (MA Fashion Design) are pleased to invite you to our community event on Wednesday June 5, 2019 in Arnhem.

Union of Concerned Researchers in Fashion

We are excited to announce that the Union of Concerned Researchers in Fashion – an initiative founded by Kate Fletcher, Lynda Grose, Timo Rissanen and Mathilda Tham – will hold an assembly in Arnhem. Kate Fletcher is Research Professor at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at University of the Arts London, and she will lead a discussion to share this important initiative with our community. We acutely support and have underwritten this manifesto and its intentions as it resonates with the urgencies we feel in our research and educational activities. It critically addresses the societal and ecological crises for which fashion holds a responsibility, and is committed to contributing to developing alternative approaches. For more information about the Union, please see: concernedresearchers.org

In conversation with…

In addition, we will host a series of conversations focused on the core themes of the Fashion Professorship – the need for a critical fashion discourse and alternative value systems, the importance of doing more justice to fashion’s human dimension and its embodiment, and a renewed way of engaging with fashion’s materials and materialities.
Pascale Gatzen (Head of Fashion Held in Common), Judith ter Haar (interim Head MA Fashion Strategy) and Daniëlle Bruggeman (Fashion Professorship) will engage in conversations with Kate Fletcher, Otto von Busch (Associate Professor of Integrated Design - Parsons School of Design) and Timo Rissanen (Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Sustainability - Parsons School of Design). Since both Otto and Timo are limiting long distance flying, they will participate and contribute in a creative way from a distance.

Launch special edition APRIA journal on the Fashion Colloquium

Finally, we will launch the special edition of the new online APRIA journal – on the Fashion Colloquium, a two-day conference, which we hosted in Arnhem in May-June 2018 during State of Fashion. This special edition includes a selection of thought-provoking contributions by the keynote speakers, creative practitioners and academic researchers who participated in the conference. This will be a moment to look back at the critical discussions we started during the Colloquium, and to continue our conversations.
